Student Opportunity
Side-by-Side Orchestra Fellowship
An educational performance opportunity for collegiate and graduate instrumentalists to bridge the gap between school and the professional opera world.
The Side-by-Side Orchestra Fellowship gives emerging instrumentalists the opportunity to observe, rehearse, and perform within a professional opera environment. Fellows work alongside experienced orchestra members and gain firsthand insight into the collaborative pace, preparation, and artistry of mainstage opera.
Program Overview
The fellowship is designed as a practical bridge between academic training and professional performance. Participants experience how singers, conductors, directors, orchestra musicians, and production teams work together to bring an opera from rehearsal into performance.
Professional Experience
Fellows are placed in a working rehearsal setting where preparation, flexibility, listening, and ensemble awareness are central. The program emphasizes the musical and professional habits that support a successful opera production.
Who the Program Serves
The fellowship is intended for collegiate and graduate instrumentalists who are developing toward professional careers in music and want deeper experience with opera, pit orchestra playing, and collaborative performance practice.
